The update was on kids, once I got it to recognize my phone it was simple. First thing I noticed was the notification bar looked different than before
Smaller images, battery status is vertical vs horizontal now. When you pull down the notification bar silent is gone and replaced by flight mode. Nothing was deleted as far as ringtones, contacts and photos. I did have to log back into my amazon account for the app store but that was no biggie. As for other changes I am not sure b/c I have only had the phone a week or so and just came from a phone which was running gingerbread.

Well I upgraded to Gingerbread. Backed up all contacts but not apps. Everything is still there, Contacts, pictures, apps... Here is a picture of my phone. No problems yet.

:)I removed all of the klies, reinstalled, reset phone. It would download the new GB, but not install it and the phone was locked. You had to remove battery to boot up again. I did variations ofthis for 6 hrs.
I discovered you MUST HAVE THE MEDIA PLAYER 11. This will let it go through.

There is a lot of things different.

Good luck

Multiple installs and unistalls of Kies Mini last night and today.  4 different chats online with Samsung.  The last two advising me to call Samsung.  Kies Mini still shows grayed out box for the "phone upgrade".  And yes...I'm installing on a 32 bit computer.
"As we have done all the possible steps and still we are unable to fix the issue, I request you contact our voice support at 1-888-987-4357, Mon-Fri: 7 AM - 9 PM (CST), Sat: 9 AM - 6 PM (CST), for the further support on this issue."
Right now, my phone still shows as an "unregistered device".  I did register the phone on Samsungs website last night, and it does show when I log in on Samsung.com.
I was advised by the Customer Rep on the phone that since the software is still brand new, there is no available support for Kies Mini software.  To "wait 24 hours".  Fun is.
Just asking if anyone who actually did get GB installed, whether or not the phone was registered.  Anyone install with the phone not showing registered?

One other thing....I did reset my phone last night per Samsung chat request.

"when in doubt...reset/reboot".

The Samsung rep on the phone said it was (or might be) waiting on AT&T of the IMEI numbers to get loaded in their system...to solve the "unregistered device" issue.  Sounded like passing the buck to me.

It was on the 3rd chat last night that I was advised to make sure my phone was in "Debugging Mode" in the USB settings on the phone.  (And also to have the Kies Mini radio button clicked".

thank you for your response.  (more than Samsung and AT&T have done for me lately.)

I actually have already tried this approach.  Found a long thread on the AT&T support site, where many people are all having similar issues.  But myself and one other person have done the GTG, back to 1997UCKD5, and were still unable to get GB throught Kies Mini.

Kies Mini shows I have the latest version.  Firmware upgrade: 11/10/13.  Phone Upgrade grayed out.

Interesting to note that at this level, I was able to download the "latest software" from the Software Update area on the Settings tab.  But that ended up not working either..."update not completed".

So I will keep checking to see if there is another workaround tomorrow.  This has been 30 hours of pain in the *PUNISHER RULES*.

Not quite sure.  I've never rooted the phone, or really wanted to chance messing with my phone.   Wink Wink

I have already master reset my phone though.  Samsung had suggested that last night.  I basically have a new phone today.  It was hard not to try to update any apps which i normally use, thinking I would be overwriting them again anyways.

how do I get this update when I know no one with a 32 bit computer system? Kies will not recognize my phone and Samsung says thats the only way to get it. Will ATT FINALLY getthe update and add it to their phones or do we all have to do without the new gingerbread update. I'm not the savy on all the technical how tos so if anyone has a way to update that this idiot can understand, I would be most grateful for any help!
