My apologies if this has been covered and I have not found the answer.

When I tried to connect my Infuse to my computer (XP) my computer locks up on me. Mouse will not respond at all and I actually have to hit the reset button. I have gone to the Samsung site and downloaded the Kiees program thing or whatever that is. (Sorry, I am not terribly technically advanced with programs, etc)

My primary objective is simply to transfer photos from the phone to the computer. I know I can e-mail them via the phone and all that, but it just does not seem like it should be that hard to transfer via usb cable. My Motorolla phone did it with no problems.

Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Something seems to be wrong with your windows installation, it does happen after a while, especially if there are some old drivers installed that are being activated by mistake. You don't need Kies to copy and move files, it should work with default generic windows drivers, just like any USB memory stick, nothing Samsung specific.

An alternative tor reinstalling your PC would be to use the external microSD card in the phone, move all files to it, remove the card from the phone and read it on the PC using a card reader. However, if there is a problem with your USB drivers, you might end up with the same problems as when connecting the phone directly.

Download Android Manager WiFi on both your PC & phone. You can thank me later  Smile

Craig,
I actually did that about two days ago and forgot to update the thread. That was indeed the solution to transferring stuff between my phone and computer.
Thank you for your answer. Maybe others will read the thread and have the answer now if they face a similar situation.

My situation was a little different. I found that if I plugged the phone into any of the front USB ports the computer would not recognize the phone.  If I plugged it into any of the rear USB ports it worked fine.  Strange solution for my problem but it works.

you need to install the drivers.
*note: i believe the samsung site finally has drivers, but i did not use them, so i cannot vouch for them*

to install the drivers:
set your phone to mass storage (i will assume you know how). then plug it into the pc.
*note: i have a port on my pc that only charges the phone. the rest will connect fully. try another port if needed*
your phone will automatically install drivers.
to disconnect, first do the unplug/eject function as you would any usb device. then on your phone, press the turn off usb button on the screen. finally, unplug.

repeat in media player.

after these two proceduces, you can leave it on 'ask upon connection' if you want.

*i bought my phone on the 2nd day of its release. its been over two months since i did a driver install. if i forgot a step or used a wrong phrase, someone feel free to correct it.

ALSO

1. this app you downloaded. i do not know it. but some apps require that background data (settings/accounts and sync/) be activated. many will just sit there waiting until you do. some tell you it needs it.
2. you do not need to mount and unmount the card. the phone will do it for you.

3.avoid all responses prior to the previous two. they were imported from another board and do not always apply to the infuse.
